PremiCote WP12

PremiCote WP12 is a single component, water based, wash primer for spray brush, or roller application.

Recommended Uses:

This product is intended for your use as a wash primer for aged EPDM surfaces. Excellent adhesion will be achieved over aged EPDM.

Product Limitations:

Because product is water based it must not be used in freezing or near freezing temperatures. It is critical that the product is completely washed off the roof after application. Residual material will result in complete failure of coating system.

General Properties:

This primer is has been formulated to maximize adhesion of coatings and polyurethane foam to aged EPDM surfaces.

Material Handling:

Installers should read and understand all technical and informational literature on PremiCote WP12, including the Safety Data Sheets, prior to using this product. PremiCote WP12 is designed for installation by a professional application company. Caution should be exercised to prevent mishap due to improper handling. Published technical data and instructions are subject to change without notice. Proper Storage of Raw Materials:

Material storage temperatures should be 70°-85°F (21°-30°C) for several days prior to use and should not exceed 90°F (32°C). Cold materials can cause poor mixing, pump cavitation or other process problems due to higher viscosities at lower temperatures. Do not store where the containers will be exposed to rain, snow or high heat. Keep containers tightly closed when not in use and under dry air. Shelf life is twelve months from date of manufacture.

Application Guidelines:
  • Surface should be clean and dry before primer application.
  • Typical application rate is 1 gallon per 500 square feet.
  • Primer may be applied with a conventional airless sprayer or Hudson (pressure pot type) sprayer.
  • Primer should remain on surface for a minimum of 15 minutes but can remain on the surface as long as 2 hours.
  • Clean the EPDM rubber membrane with a commercial power washer (between 2000-3500 psi) and water. When cleaning the EPDM, it should be done slowly and close in order to remove mica and inorganic release agents. NOTE: Failure to use a power washer will result in poor coating adhesion. Rinse thoroughly with power washer.
  • Completely rinse roof of all residue from roof. This rinse step may be done at a faster pace than cleaning step.
  • It is critical the final rinse water is clear with no soap bubbles present.
  • Allow the EPDM surface to dry before applying the coating. No visible dampness or wet spots should be evident.
  • Properly treated surface will be jet black.
